Hadith Lesson: Considerations During Prayer
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad.
1Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Undoubtedly, Allah ﷻ took your souls whenever He ﷻ wanted to.” When a person is asleep, Allah ﷻ takes his soul. “And He ﷻ gave them back to you when He ﷻ wanted to.” When you wake up from your sleep, your soul returns to you. “O Bilal, get up and invite people to pray. Make the Adhan.” When it’s time to wake up, some people can’t wake up from their sleep. Allah ﷻ doesn’t give their souls back, so they pass away. For those who wake up, Adhan is the invitation of Allah ﷻ, says our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.
2Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Change your position which makes you sleepy in Masjid.” When you feel sleepy, you should stand up and go to another place. If you stay in the same place, you will be overcome by sleep and fall asleep. So, you should change your place.
3Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Sleepiness is not a fault.” If a person is sleeping, it is ok. “Only when he is awake, delaying the previous prayer until the time for another prayer comes, it becomes faulty.” If a person is late because of sleep, it is ok. But when a person is awake and doesn’t pray until the time for the next prayer comes, this is the real heedlessness. He is faulty then.
4Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Kaffarah of a person who forgets about the prayer or misses it while sleeping is to do it when he remembers.” People sometimes forget if they prayed or not, when they are busy. Until they realize they didn’t pray, the time may have passed. Or they may be asleep. Kaffarah for that is to pray immediately.
5Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “A person who manages to pray one Rakah of a prayer performed in Jama’ah is as if he prays all of it.” If a person manages to pray even one Rakah in a Jama'ah prayer, he is considered to have prayed all the prayer in Jama’ah, says our Holy Prophet ﷺ.
6Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whoever prays one Rakah of Fajr prayer and the sun rises, he should complete his prayer.” It should be completed.
7Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “A person who did not make it to the last Rakah of Jama’ah prayer did not complete all the prayer.” He must complete all the four Rakat after the Imam gives Salam.
8Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
In old times, in the holy Masjid an-Nabawi of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam there were no praying mats. It was all sand. Therefore, our Holy Prophet ﷺ says, “When you pray, never spit on your right and in front.” There was sand where they prayed. They would spit. But our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam told not to spit on the right and in front. “If it is empty, spit on your left. If it is not empty on the left, spit under your left foot and cover it with sand,” said our Holy Prophet ﷺ. There is no such chance anymore. Only if you pray outside and come across such a situation, you may do so. But you can’t do so inside the mosque anymore.
9Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When you perform a prayer, lift up what hangs down from your gown, because if anything hanging down from your clothes touches the ground passing your heels, the owner of these clothes will be in hell.” 10-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whenever someone among you stands up for the prayer, he should not close his eyes.” Your eyes must be open in the prayer. You must look in your place, not around. You shouldn’t close your eyes but look at the place of Sajdah while standing. And in Ruku’, you look at your feet. While sitting, you look at your hands. But don’t close your eyes, says our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.
11-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whenever someone among you stands in a prayer, divine mercy comes directly to you.” When a person stands in a prayer, divine mercy of Allah ﷻ comes to him. “For this reason, when the person is praying, he shouldn’t touch pebbles on the place of Sajdah for his Khushu not to be gone.” He shouldn’t be busy with other things but mind his prayer not to be deprived from the divine mercy.
12-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whenever someone among you performs a prayer, he shouldn’t spit with his face towards Qibla. Because it will be in the direction of Allah’s ﷻ face.” It is disrespect to Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Therefore, our Holy Prophet ﷺ tells not to spit in front.
13-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whenever someone among you performs a prayer, he should put his shoes on, or take them out between his feet. He should not harm anyone by putting them to the side or in front.” Our Holy Prophet ﷺ thinks about goodness and beauty for everyone. In order for anyone not to have any harm, he ﷺ tells to put shoes aside or between the feet.
14-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whenever someone among you sees a scorpion while praying, he should kill it with his left shoe.” It is a harmful animal and a pest. As it is also poisonous, you should kill it with your left shoe.
15-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Even if you are praying, kill the snake and the scorpion.” Because they are dangerous. As the animals and pests are dangerous there, you may kill them not to be harmed by them even if you are praying.
16-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Kill the two black - the snake and the scorpion even if you are praying.”
Sadaqa RasuluLlah fi ma qal, aw kama qal. The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ says the truth in what he ﷺ said or as he ﷺ said.
