The Companions of Chivalry

Ashab al-Futuwwah

An order of archers within the dergah. Its place is not given: it is earned, through skill with the bow and through adab, service and sincerity of heart.

What is futuwwah?

Futuwwah is the chivalry of the believer: generosity, courage, keeping one’s word, and preferring others over oneself. The people of the Way have long honoured it, and our shaykhs teach that its heart is service.

Archery is a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, and the bow has always trained more than the arm. Steadiness, patience, control of the breath and humility before the target are lessons for the heart as much as the hand.

Ashab al-Futuwwah are the archers who carry both: proven on the range, and known for their character at the dergah.

The Path to Initiation

Every member of Ashab al-Futuwwah has walked these five stages. None can be skipped.

  1. I

    The Foundation Course

Every archer begins here: safe handling of the bow, the basics of form, and the adab of the range.

  2. II

    Proven Skill

Steady training until the archer reaches the level of skill the instructors require.

  3. III

    Consistency

Turning up, week after week. Commitment to training is a sign of a sincere heart.

  4. IV

    Adab and Sincerity

Skill alone is not enough. The archer must be known for good character, service and sincerity of intention.

  5. V

    Initiation

Those who are ready are initiated into Ashab al-Futuwwah and given access to the members' area.

The Members’ Area

Reserved for initiated members of Ashab al-Futuwwah, who train together every other Sunday. Session details are shared with members only. Members’ sign-in is coming soon, in sha Allah.
