Hadith Lesson: Performing a Proper Sajdah
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad.
1Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When Sajdah is made in a prayer, it is made by placing the forehead, two hands, two knees and two feet on the ground. Those who do not fully touch the ground will be burnt in hellfire by Allah ﷻ.” All of these are done while making Sajdah. You must not lift your feet. Your fingers must touch the ground. And not the outer side but the inner side of fingers must touch it. Certainly, people who pray know this. But sometimes people may not know; Allah ﷻ will forgive. But they must learn these things when they pray.
2Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Put your nose on the ground so that it makes Sadjah with you.” Sometimes people only put their foreheads down and don’t touch with their noses. Your nose should touch the ground in Sajdah too so that it makes Sadjah, says our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. Sajdah is the most important thing. It is when a person is the closest to Allah ﷻ. Therefore, both your forehead and nose should be in Sajdah.
3Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Keep on making Sajdah and make Sajdah a lot. Undoubtedly, Allah ﷻ increases your rank for every Sajdah and forgives a sin of yours.” Sajdah is very important. And our Holy Prophet ﷺ tells to make a lot of Sajdah. Your rank will be increased and your sins will be forgiven.
4Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “No position of a servant is more beloved in the sightpresence of Allah ﷻ than Allah ﷻ seeing him put his face down in Sajdah.” Therefore, Sajdah is the most accepted thing in the presence of Allah ﷻ. It is to be the closest to Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla.
5Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “There is no servant whose rank is not raised and a sin is not erased by Allah ﷻ when he makes Sajdah to Allah ﷻ.” This is certainly about all Sajdah, like Sajdah outside the prayer, when you make Shukr Sajdah. They equally raise rank, and sins are forgiven.
6Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Our Holy Prophet ﷺ has prohibited to blow on the dust on the ground while making Sajdah and to blow on the water while drinking.” Blowing on the place of Sajdah is forbidden by our Holy Prophet ﷺ. And while drinking water or even eating hot food, it is not good to blow in it. You must wait for the water to clear up or food to cool down. And blowing is certainly a wrong thing. It is not a good thing, that is why our Holy Prophet ﷺ has prohibited it. Nothing is banned in vain. We must pay attention to this. Many people blow on food without knowing, when it is hot. And blowing on the place of Sajdah to make it clean is wrong too.
7Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Every Surah has a share in Ruku’ and Sajdah.” When you make Ruku’ and Sajdah, you take Thawab from Surahs in Qur’an.
8Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “There is no servant who is not forgiven even before he raises his head when he says “O my Lord, forgive me!” three times in Sajdah.” Certainly, out of mercy, Allah ﷻ will forgive his sins insha’Allah when he says that three times in Sajdah.
9Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Making Ruku’ and Sajdah quickly like the pecking of a crow, spreading arms on the ground like the sprawling of a predator and keeping the same place in a mosque like a camel’s making place to itself are forbidden.” People must be more careful in Ruku’ and Sajdah; not by sitting and putting your arms on the ground but by doing according to Sunnah. And at last, if a camel gets used to one place, it remains there. Therefore, you should not stand in the same place in Masjid. For example, someone has a place and he doesn’t let others come close. Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam has prohibited that.
10-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “The prayer of a person who doesn’t stand with his waist straight when getting up from Ruku’ and Sajdah is not valid.” When he wants to get up and goes to Ruku’ before standing straight, or goes to Sajdah without sitting straight, that is wrong, says our Holy Prophet ﷺ.
Sadaqa RasuluLlah fi ma qal, aw kama qal. The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ says the truth in what he ﷺ said or as he ﷺ said.
