The Biggest Sins
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.
Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam told his ﷺ Sahabah, “Shall I tell you about the biggest sins?” Sometimes people take some things lightly. Even though they are very bad, people take them lightly. Akbaru l-Kaba’ir means the biggest sins. One of them is not to treat parents well, to treat them badly. That is the biggest sin. There are many other things. But the worst is to treat parents badly, to make them upset. Certainly, there are degrees of it. Sometimes beating them, swearing at them, or not taking care of them is one of the biggest sins.
And then there is giving false testimony which is valued in this century. It is a big sin too. Our Holy Prophet ﷺ repeated it many times that it is a big sin. He ﷺ said giving false testimony is a big sin so many times that the Sahabah wished that he ﷺ stopped. Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said that with so much sorrow.
Indeed, false testimony hurts many people and takes their rights. They give false testimony for two pennies. You think “What may come out of mere words?” Some words cut heads, some words take people’s rights. Therefore, we must be careful. Especially, when someone asks if you saw something or if that is true, if you saw it, you must say it as it is. But if they tell you to say this and that for things you didn’t see, beware of doing that even if that is a little thing. Don’t do that. Don’t give false testimony.
Not only in court, but there are big matters in life as well. If you know that matter, tell about it. If you don’t know, beware of giving testimony based on someone’s words. Testimony is not only going to court and testifying by putting your hand on Qur’an. Beware of giving false testimony at all times. There are various people in the courts now who say proudly, “Give me money, and I’ll give a false testimony for you.” That works however this system is. Even though they know that man is a liar, they accept his testimony. May Allah ﷻ protect us. It is not important that they accept it. It is enough for people to have punishment and a bad end in the presence of Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla, in Akhirah.
The truth may disappear in this world, but it doesn’t disappear in Akhirah. If you give testimony for two pennies, you will certainly be punished for it. Even if not for money, don’t give false testimony about things you didn’t see or hear. And don’t give testimony by believing someone’s words.
May Allah ﷻ protect us. May He ﷻ give alertness to us. These are very important things. You think testimony is only in courts; it is every hour of every day. Therefore, may Allah ﷻ protect us. May we not do badness based on the wishes of our egos and the egos of other people. May we not commit sins and do Haram insha’Allah. May Allah ﷻ protect us.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
