Hadith Lesson: Virtues of Praying in the Mosque

6 min read

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad.

1Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Starting from the moment when someone among you leaves his home to go to Masjid,” starting from the moment of someone leaving his home with the intention of praying in Masjid, “one of his feet records Thawab and the other foot erases his sins.” Going to a mosque is such a beautiful means for earning Thawab and forgiveness of sins. Even on the way before praying we attain that Thawab.

2Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whoever goes to Masjid in the morning and in the evening, Allah ﷻ prepares a landing place for him in paradise for every morning and evening.” This is good tidings for people who go to a mosque for praying. People go to mosques unaware of what they earn. Allah ﷻ has prepared great rewards for them in Akhirah.

3Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whoever walks to Masjid in order to pray Fard prayer in Jama’ah, Thawab of that prayer is like Thawab of Hajj.” A person who goes when Adhan is called or before Adhan to pray Fard prayer in Jama’ah gets a reward similar to Thawab of Hajj. There is such great Thawab. “And whoever walks to Masjid for Nafl prayer, Thawab of that prayer is like Thawab of Umrah,” says our Holy Prophet ﷺ. Allah ‘Azza waJalla gives big rewards to those who pray by joining Jama’ah in mosques. There are great rewards. People are not unaware of that. And many people don’t want to be aware. But Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla has prepared great rewards for those who pray in Masjid with Jama’ah.

4Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Those who go to Masjid in the dark are diving in the mercy of Allah ﷻ.” Those who go to the Fajr, Maghrib and Isha prayers are diving in mercy seas of Allah ﷻ. They are swimming in the mercy seas.

5Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whoever among you makes ablution at home and then goes to Masjid is counted to be praying until he returns home.” Even if he is not praying, the time while he’s walking is counted as if he’s praying, says our Holy Prophet ﷺ. “And he should not clasp his hands, for it is counted as if he’s praying.” No need to clasp the hands. You may walk normally. Even that will be counted as praying. And no need to do the movements of prayer like clasping the hands.

6Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whoever among you makes ablution nicely by keeping its Adab and starts his way heading towards Masjid should not clasp his hands, because that person is counted as if he is praying.” When someone makes ablution and leaves home doesn’t need to keep his hands as if he is praying. He is counted as if he is praying anyway.

7Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “The virtue of being in Jihad on the way of Allah ﷻ.” Ribat means standing in guard against the enemies. There are great rewards in that. By praying, you will perform the same duty. There is no one in Ribat now. Very few people do that. But we are earning that reward from where we are. That state is to keep on our prayers and those assemblies of Dhikr. When we keep on prayer and assemblies of Dhikr, it substitutes for Ribat which is mentioned by our Holy Prophet ﷺ. “Until a servant who prays and then sits down to wait for another prayer renews his ablution, angels make Dua for him continuously.” That person doesn’t sit there for nothing. Angels make Du’a for him.

8Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When Allah Almighty sends a disaster from heavens to people in this world, that disaster is removed from upon

those who build a Masjid.” When a disease comes or something happens to people from Allah ﷻ, they will be saved from those disasters.

9Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Those who build Masjids, homes of Allah ﷻ are from the people of Allah ﷻ.” They are from beloved people of Allah ﷻ. Those who build mosques and Masjids are beloved servants of Allah ﷻ.

10-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “If you see someone making a habit to go to Masjid, testify for his Iman then.” This man goes to a mosque. We see that. We testify that he has Iman.

11-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When Allah Almighty wishes punishment for people in this world…” Even if people have gone wild and deserve punishment, Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, “When I see those who build My houses, the Masjids, who love each other for Me and who ask for forgiveness at dawn, I will not punish them,” says Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. For their honor, Allah ﷻ keeps punishment away from people.

Sadaqa RasuluLlah fi ma qal, aw kama qal. The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ says the truth in what he ﷺ said or as he ﷺ said.
