Don’t Ask for Patience

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa Raḥmatullāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu Billāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi Rasūlillāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm: ‘ ’, ‘Rabbanā walā tuḥammilnā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bih’, ‘O our Lord and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear.’ (Qur’ān 02:286). Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘aẓīm. We are begging Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla so that He ﷻ doesn't load us with more burden, so that He ﷻ doesn't load us with things that we cannot carry; for Allāh ﷻ to help us. This beautiful āyatu l-karīmah is āyah gifted by Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla to our Holy Prophet ﷺ on Laylatu l-Mi‘rāj.

This āyah says that Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gives people things they can carry. That is to worship and to do goodness. As long as people live, they must do something in their lives. People didn't come to this world for nothing. They must do it. And with Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla’s wisdom, He ﷻ has ordered tasks that people can carry out. He ﷻ has ordered worshipping and things they can do. They must do them. No need to do things apart from them. People may do if they are able to. But normally, whoever does something apart from the order of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla knows for himself. If he wants to do goodness, he can do it as much as he can. If he cannot do, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla doesn't give burden that people can't carry.

If they have to go through something in this world, they will go through that much and if they show patience, they will be rewarded. If they are not patient, they will still be rewarded if they have īmān. But of course, not as much as the patient ones. Their reward will be less. If they don't believe in Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, they will not get anything then. They will suffer both here and hereafter.

Therefore, we must carry out the orders of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. May Allāh ﷻ help us to do as much as we can. Allāh ﷻ will forgive what we can't do, in shā’a Llāh. If we repent and ask for forgiveness from Him ﷻ, it will be accepted. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla is the river of forgiveness. He ﷻ doesn't look at small or big things. As long as people repent, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla forgives.

Some people say they can't carry so much. But oftentimes we see that it doesn't happen as people want it in this world. Oftentimes there is a lot of hardship. Since the time of Ādam ‘alayhi s-salām there has been hardship. There is nothing like people got comfort and relief. It is possible that they have apparent hardship. But spiritually, great beautiful things happen to them. Nevertheless, worldliness makes people see them as hardship.

Therefore, it is beneficial for you to be pleased with what Allāh ‘Azza waJalla gives you. However, we make du‘ā’ asking not to give us things we cannot carry. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla is merciful. In shā’a Llāh with that du‘ā’, we will live this worldly life in comfort without hardship, and will live happily in ākhirah. That is an acceptable du‘ā’. There is no objection in it. However, we must accept everything that comes and say everything has wisdom in it. And to beg Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla always asking for easiness, making du‘ā’ to be given goodness is a nice thing and brings thawāb. May Allāh ﷻ protect all of us. May He ﷻ not give us burden we can't carry. May Allāh ﷻ protect us. Because there are very tough things. May Allāh ﷻ protect us insha’Allah.
