Instructions for Hajj
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa Raḥmatullāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu Billāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi Rasūlillāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.
May Allāh ﷻ bless you and make you higher and higher insha’Allah, in every good thing insha’Allah. From the Madad of Mawlana, people are growing insha’Allah with Iman and are gathering for Allāh ﷻ.
AlhamduliLlah every time we come in a different time. This time, we came in the month of Dhul Qa’dah, which is one of the respected months for Muslims and for non-Muslims in Arabia. For what was it respected? Because it was for pilgrimage, for Hajj; these three months and one month of Rajab. But the three months come together: Dhul Qa’dah, Dhul Hijjah, Muharram. People must travel to come to Hajj, so there must be peace between these tribes. They had to gather without any danger. They were respecting people who were going to pilgrimage. And this was respected because it is the first house in the world for Allāh ‘Azza waJalla, Ka’bah.
For this, even those who don’t know anything about religion and were worshipping idols, were also respecting and doing Tawaf. When Allāh ﷻ wants something: to make some place holy, some people holy, some month holy, He ﷻ does and people follow even without knowing. For this, they were respecting these months. Even if they were fighting very badly, these people cannot fight in these months. But even with this, there were people who were sometimes cheating, they said, “We make these months before their time, or after their time so we can fight in this month.” But this is not accepted by Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Who does this is ‘Kufr wa Dalal’ (unbelief and misguidance). This month and what Allāh ﷻ gave of respect for Makkah, Madinah, Quds is a special blessing.
Now is the time for this [Hajj]. AlhamduliLlah millions of people who can go there are trying to go. When Sayyidina Ibrahim built it, it was destroyed and there was nothing there. Sayyidina Ibrahim built it again. It was first built, then destroyed and no one knew about it. After that, Sayyidina Ibrahim ‘alayhi s-salam
built it again; Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla ordered him. Allāh ﷻ ordered him to build it and after building it to call the Adhan, to call people for Hajj. When Sayyidina Ibrahim looked, there was nobody there, but he made the Adhan.,
“Ya'tīna Min Kulli Fajjin `Amīq”, “They will come from every distant pass.” (Qur’an 22:27). People will come from very far places, from very deep places. Mawlana Shaykh says, who heard this Adhan will be going to Hajj. And who didn’t hear it, there’s no Naseeb (not destined) for him.
It is one of the pillars of Islam to go to Hajj, to be healthy and able to go. It is an order for every Muslim. Allāh ﷻ gives from His ﷻ endless treasures, full of gifts for who goes to Hajj. He becomes clean from every dirtiness of sins. Allāh ﷻ forgives him for everything he has done. For what Allāh ﷻ has on His ﷻ servant, He ﷻ forgives everything. He becomes clean as a newborn baby. And for the things done to other people, he must look for them and ask for forgiveness from anybody he harmed, from anybody he cheated or done something harming him, if he can ask for forgiveness, he must. Many people have Waswas (whispering), “We have done this, we have done that, will Allāh ﷻ forgive us?” Allāh ﷻ will forgive when His ﷻ servant asks. But to be sure, when you go to Hajj, Allāh ﷻ forgives all your sins. You become clean from dirt.
And besides this, when you pray in Ka’bah, Allāh ﷻ gives you [reward] for each prayer as a hundred thousand prayers. A hundred thousand - you cannot pray this in maybe 30 years. In one prayer, you get all this blessing. Many people are not taking too much interest in this. They say, “We pray in the hotel, outside of Ka’bah. It is still in Haram. It is the same reward.” Last time we went, we arrived to Makkah, it was maybe 30 kilometers away from Ka’bah, the bus driver said, “Now you are in Haram, in which wherever you pray, Allāh ﷻ rewards you a hundred thousand rewards.” Of course it is Haram, so non-Muslims cannot enter it. But for praying, Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says in Hadith, praying one Salat (prayer) in Masjid al-Haram is equal to a hundred thousand from other mosques. In another Hadith, he ﷺ also says, “To pray in my ﷺ mosque, it is equal to a thousand times from any mosque except Ka’bah, Masjid al-Haram which is equal to a hundred thousand times.” So even with this, shaytan likes to cheat people to not get more rewards. Shaytan doesn’t lose hope in taking this reward and letting them make sin. Because also if you make sin there, it is also the same: you will make sin a hundred thousand times if you make it in Masjid al-Haram. For this, he likes to make people not to have this reward.
Therefore, those who go to Hajj must be careful for this: not to argue, not to fight with anybody. He must just do his worshiping, I’badah and to look after himself, control his ego and control himself. He must not make shaytan to be happy. Once something happened to Bāyazīd al-Basṭāmī or shaytan made him to sleep before Fajr so he didn’t wake up and he missed Fajr prayer. He woke up when the sun rose. He was extremely unhappy. He was very miserable. He was crying, crying and crying because he missed it. He prayed and after that Allāh ‘Azza waJalla gave him by inspiration an order to look. He was looking and it was written: Allāh ﷻ accepted your prayer as seventy thousand prayers. He was really sincere and very sad for what happened. After a while, maybe one year less or more, he slept again and he was about to miss prayer again. Shaytan came and started kicking him, “Wake up! You will miss prayer.” He asked him, “How did you do this goodness to me?” He said, “No, I will not leave you like last time. Once is enough for me. You will not make me unhappy with taking seventy thousand rewards again.” For this, in Hajj there are many rewards; too much. So shaytan tries to take all of them before the Hajji goes back to his country. Many people before coming from Hajj lose most of their rewards that Allāh ﷻ has given them.
Hajj is not easy, even with everything looking easy now. To arrive from Makkah to Madinah Munawwarah is very easy. But still, Allāh ﷻ has made it difficult in a different way. He ﷻ puts somebody to make it more difficult, somebody to make you unhappy. But all of this, you must know that this is a kind of difficulty of Hajj. As we said, it is difficult to be patient with these people. They don’t know how to treat people. If we do it, “We can do it better.” No. This is not your business, not your job.
What’s most important for you is to know every difficult from Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. And for every difficulty you be patient for and accept, Allāh ﷻ rewards you for this. If you do this, you’ll be restful and happy. As much as His ﷻ servant accepts, Allāh ﷻ will be happy with him. This I’badah and worship of Hajj will be more acceptable. If you make Shukr and be thankful for Allāh ﷻ, Allāh ﷻ will reward you and you will come back with all gifts without giving [losing] anything for shaytan. This is also not only for Hajji but also for us, everywhere. If you are patient, Allāh ﷻ rewards you. ‘ ’, ‘Innamā Yuwaffá sSābirūna Ajrahum Bighayri Ĥisāb’, ‘Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account.’ (Qur’ān 39:10). And when you know this, you will have no more sadness, no more worry, no more panic attacks. May Allāh ﷻ keep us safe and reward us, and help us to be happy with Him ﷻ insha’Allah. Thank you.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
