Ego Loves Praise

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm:

(Qur’ān 03:188). ‘Wa Yuĥibbūna 'An Yuĥmadū Bimā Lam Yaf`alū’, ‘And like to be praised for what they did not do.’ Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla wrote all about the nature of people in Qu’ran ‘Azimu shShan. ‘ ’, ‘Wa Lā Raţbin Wa Lā Yā Bisin 'Illā Fī Kitābin Mubīnin’, ‘And no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.’ (Qur’ān 06:59). He ﷻ wrote about the nature of people. Many people expect gratitude for things they didn’t do. They do something completely unrelated, and want to be thanked as if they have done it themselves. This is a bad nature, a bad nature of the ego.

Even when they do, people who fear Allah ﷻ may say, “It is a favor from Allah ﷻ. We have nothing to do with this. Allah ﷻ let us do so with His ﷻ grace and generosity.” However, those who don’t do so make a complete chaos about it everywhere, “I did this. I did that” when they do something. It is not a good characteristic. When they tell about something they didn’t do as if they did some goodness, it’s not good at all. It is a situation that Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla doesn’t like at all. People do badness to themselves instead of goodness then.

If they say, “I couldn’t do it” and they may have had an intention to do, they will be rewarded. But those who claim what others did without doing it themselves and telling they did so for some personal benefit follow the nature disliked by Allah ﷻ. And what Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla doesn’t like brings no profit. He ﷻ doesn’t like people who do so. Not only goodness doesn’t come from such people, but also the wrath of Allah ﷻ comes upon them because of lying and cheating people as they didn’t do it. This is something Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla doesn’t like.

However, the mercy of Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla is endless. Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla forgives everything done. People who repent and ask for forgiveness will be saved. If they ask Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla to forgive them for their mistakes and sins, if they repent while they are still breathing, that will be gone. But if they see this bad nature and bad characteristic as a skill and keep on doing so, they will carry their punishment then.

May Allah ﷻ protect us from the evil of our egos, because the ego likes to be flattered. Even if it doesn’t earn anything, it likes to be flattered. If people look at him and say, “He is a person who does so much goodness”, his ego wants to boast. Whereas if things done are hidden, when they are real, he gets greater rewards. May Allah ﷻ protect us from our egos and from the evil of our egos. May He ﷻ save us from these bad characteristics insha’Allah.

Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
