Ego and Love of Fame

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

There are dangerous things for the ego mentioned by our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. The biggest danger is certainly fame. People do various things to be famous. Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says fame is a disaster. When you are famous, you cannot control your ego. You boost and pump your ego. You say, “How cool am I!” The ego ruins everything given by Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla.

Fame is one of the most loved things of the ego in our time. It was so in old times as well. Nowadays people have gone completely crazy to become famous in any way. They are capable of doing all kinds of things. And they are doing bad things rather than good things thinking they are earning something. Whereas they are not earning but losing many things. They are losing many favors.

However, the ego is such a thing by the wisdom of Allah ﷻ that if you don’t control it, it will destroy and finish you. If you control it, you will be on the way of Allah ﷻ. You will make Allah ﷻ happy, and you will make our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam happy. Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla is happy when His ﷻ servants are on the right way, and so does our Holy Prophet ﷺ.

This time is a bad time. Therefore, we must be careful. Whatever everyone is doing is not good. “Everyone is doing this. Everyone is doing that.” Everyone will be held accountable later on, and everyone will be punished. Those with such habits and bad characteristics will be punished. And Allah ﷻ will forgive those who are saved from bad characteristics. The Door of Forgiveness of Allah ﷻ is open. Therefore, may Allah ﷻ protect us from the evil of our egos. May Allah ﷻ protect all of us from these bad characteristics, because they are also from the biggest Fitnah of this time. May Allah ﷻ help the Ummah. May Allah ﷻ protect us.
