Even Illness is a Favor
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.
Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm:
(Qur’ān 26:80). ‘Wa idhā mariḍtu fahuwa yashfīn’, ‘And when I am ill, it is He who cures me.’ When people get sick Allah ﷻ gives remedy. Both illness and remedy are from Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. And the cure is from Him ﷻ. There is goodness in everything for Mu’mins and Muslims. Every condition given by Allah ﷻ is good. It brings benefit. It brings physical and spiritual benefit.
People think some things are bad. However, there is goodness in them. There is goodness to you. They occur in order to increase your rank, or to make your sins forgiven. And there are small ailments. They prevent other diseases from happening to you. Certainly, the mind cannot comprehend the wisdom of Allah ﷻ. The wisdom of Allah ﷻ is enormous. People don’t know, they immediately start rebelling and going against Allah ﷻ; whereas Allah ﷻ gave everything to people for their benefit as long as they are on His ﷻ way.
Otherwise, He ﷻ says, ‘ ’, ‘Falyamdud Lahu Ar-Raĥmānu Maddāan’, ‘let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension [in wealth and lifespan].’ (Qur’ān 19:75). You may say they have everything, money, wealth, beauty. But Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla is giving this to them to have more suffering in Akhirah.
Therefore, we must make Shukr and praise Allah ﷻ for everything we are given. And the cure is from Allah ﷻ. There is certainly a cure. And an illness is also a favor for Mu’mins and Muslims. May Allah ﷻ protect us from a trouble that doesn’t have solution. May Allah ﷻ give the remedy for our sufferings. May He ﷻ protect us, may He ﷻ not test us.
Small things occur. They must occur. If they don’t occur, people should have doubt about their condition. In old times, they say there was a couple who lived very well. All of a sudden, the wife said to her husband, “I want a divorce from you.” The man said, “What happened? We get along very well. And we have no problems.” The woman said “No,” and insisted on divorce. While the man was thinking it through, he fell and broke his leg. He said, “Let’s get divorced now.” But the woman said, “No. I wanted to divorce you because I never saw you sick. I thought Allah ﷻ doesn’t love you. Therefore, I decided to get a divorce from you. Now it’s ok. We don’t need a divorce.”
People of old times thought like this. If someone didn’t have any illness, they thought he was away from Allah ﷻ. People nowadays ask for vaccination or medicine, serum or hospitalization, this or that and bustle about as soon as they have something small. Whereas they must turn towards Allah ﷻ. They must praise Allah ﷻ and say, “We are given more favors. Our sins are forgiven now.” We must make Shukr that our sins are forgiven. May Allah ﷻ forgive all of us. May He ﷻ forgive our sins and change them to goodness insha’Allah.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
