Who is the Strong Person?

2 min read

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam is saying a strong person is not the one who defeats people. They say, “A person who has power, wealth and weapons is strong. No one can stand against him”. The strong one is not the one who defeats everyone. Our Holy Prophet ﷺ says, “Who is the strong person? The strong person is the one who controls his temper, a person who doesn’t get angry." A strong person is patient with everything done and deals with everything patiently. Being patient towards people is not easy. People may be strong. They may beat and defeat others and say, “No one can stand against me. I am strong.” But if he cannot control his anger when something happens, he is not strong, says our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.

Who controls his anger is strong. Anger is always harmful. We must capture our anger. If you don’t capture your anger, it will harm you. It will harm you more than others. The condition of the world is like this. We see it everywhere between people, between families or between spouses; they get up in anger and then they are destroyed when they can’t control it. May Allah ﷻ protect us.

They asked Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, “We are going to Hajj. What do you advise us?” He said, “Don’t get angry.” People think when they go to Hajj or Umrah it will be smooth and nice, whereas shaytan rides on people more. He incites more anger. Therefore, we must control our anger. Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam used to say, “La Taghdab”, “Don’t get angry.” No matter how much times he ﷺ was asked, he ﷺ replied, “La Taghdab”, “Don’t get angry.” He ﷺ said, “Don’t get angry. Don’t get angry. Don’t get angry.” The Sahabi radiya Llahu anhu said, “If I asked more, he ﷺ would say the same thing a hundred times. So I kept quiet.”

This is a big advice. Don’t get angry and control your temper. Especially these days, people get angry at nothing and harm others and themselves, then they regret it. We must learn to not get angry before regretting it. May Allah ﷻ help us. May we control our egos insha’Allah.
