A State of Constant Harm

2 min read

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says,

“La darara wa la dirār”, “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.” Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, there is no such thing in Islām. The religion of Islām represents beauty, goodness, relief, and barakah for everyone.

Therefore, one must cleanse the evil traits of the ego through the discipline of the ego. Once those traits are purged, a person becomes beneficial to everyone—not just to themselves, but to all. When a good deed is performed, it should be multiplied and sustained. One must also stay away from anything that causes harm. If a person harms another, they are, in reality, harming their own self; for Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla created human beings not to live in isolation, but to live together, and He ﷻ has ordained the provision for each of them. If one person reaches out to take another’s provision, the other will take theirs in return, and the world ends up in the state we see today— populated by beings who care for no one but themselves.

People of this time are always like this; constantly crying out, “Oh, my ego, my ego,” they think only of themselves, saying, “Let me take what I want, no matter what happens to others.” Yet, if you take from others, they will do the same to you, and in the end, you too will suffer harm. Whereas, if everyone got along well with one another, everything would proceed smoothly and beautifully. Islām is a religion of barakah; it encompasses every form of beauty and goodness. People claim to be Muslims, yet don’t actually practice Islām. None of us practices it as we ought to. We fail to uphold its true requirements; people hold back from performing even the smallest act of goodness. That is why things have come to this state. Not a trace of goodness remains. As Mawlānā Shaykh Nāẓim said, each passing day is worse than the one before. Why? Because by failing to heed the beautiful and blessed words of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wasallam, people suffer one harm after another; there is no benefit to be found.

May Allāh ﷻ help us. May Allāh ﷻ grant guidance to people so that they may find peace in both this world and the Hereafter. Whoever shows patience for the sake of the Hereafter will surely triumph; yet, if you wish to live at ease in this world as well, do no harm to anyone, nor cause harm to be inflicted upon anyone. May Allāh ﷻ help us to control our egos, in shā’a Llāh.

Wa min Allāhi t-Tawfīq. Al-Fātiḥa.
