The Spiritual Side of ‘Īd

3 min read

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa Raḥmatullāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu Billāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi Rasūlillāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

Happy ‘Īdu l-Fiṭr! May it be full of barakah. This ‘Īd is the gift of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla to us, Ummat Muḥammad. It is a spiritual feast and precious because of this. On the last day of Ramaḍān Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gives acquittance together with ifṭār to those who fast. He ﷻ gives the confirmation to Muslims regarding the acceptance of their fasting and worship. To those who perform this beautiful worship and complete the month, it is a feast. This is the real feast. It is the acquittance given to you by Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla for your ākhirah; it is a document. It is something that has the greatest benefit to people.

‘Īd becomes ‘Īd because of that. If there is no spirituality in dunyā, the feast has no use. It becomes nothing but badness. People made various holidays as they like. They made this and that. And they present them to people saying "It is our state holiday. It is our tradition. It is our thing." None of them have any value. Because they have no spiritual worth. No specialty is given to them by Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Specialty is given to this ‘Īdu l-Fiṭr and ‘Īdu l-Aḍḥá. Certainly, ‘Īdu l-Aḍḥá has different favours and grants. ‘Īdu lFiṭr has different ones.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gives opportunities to people so that they benefit from these favours. And to visit each other on these feasts to share joy brings thawāb. When believers go to visit each other, a reward is given for every step, and a sin is forgiven. Thawāb is written and their ranks increase. Because of these occasions, even though some people don't worship, many people still visit each other. That brings benefit to people too. As we said, there is no benefit in holidays fabricated by people. Apart from benefit, there is a lot of harm.

Therefore, we must be on the way of Allāh ﷻ. Who is on the way of Allāh ﷻ wins. He is at peace, he has barakah, and he wins his ākhirah. People didn't pray and didn't go to Jum‘ah in old times as well. There were people who prayed only on ‘Īd before. I don't know about now. Probably, they don't do even that now.

But may Allāh ﷻ give guidance. That is beneficial for people too. May Allāh ﷻ give guidance to people. May they taste this beauty. May they have a share from it. Believers wish goodness to people. Believers don't envy others. Those who envy are not mu’mins. They don't have īmān in their hearts. People who don't want others to have benefit, who don't wish goodness to them are not mu’min. Their īmān is not perfect.

Therefore, we wish goodness to all humanity, in shā’a Llāh. We wish goodness that Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla and our Holy Prophet ﷺ wish, in shā’a Llāh. May our ‘Īd be good, in shā’a Llāh. May next ‘Īds be even better, in shā’a Llāh. May all people be in Islām so that they benefit from these beautiful things.

Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
