Help Each Other in Goodness
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa Raḥmatullāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu Billāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi Rasūlillāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Shaykh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Shaykh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.
Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla says in the Qur’an ‘Azimu sh-Shan,
Sadaqa Llahu l-‘Azim (Qur’ān 05:02). ‘Wa ta‘āwanū ‘ala l-birri wa t-taqwā wa la ta‘āwanū ‘ala l-lithmī wa l-‘udwān’, ‘And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.’ Allah ﷻ is ordering us to help each other in good things, to do charity and to help people – Allah ﷻ ordered this. Especially for people who are saying about themselves that they are religious and they are praying, and they think they’re doing everything, going to Umrah, going here and there. But what they are doing, we say in Turkish “Kendini Musliman” – Muslim for himself only, not for others.
This is not a good Muslim. Allah ﷻ did not order this. Allah ﷻ ordered not to only help yourself, but you must help to do better for Muslims and for the Ummah. Because they are in need of each other, to help each other, to put [their] power together, to be protected from bad people and from bad things. Not to only be by yourself. By yourself, you cannot defend [yourself]; only one man [attacks] and they are quickly gone.
What happened, as Mawlana Jalaluddin Rūmī was saying in one story: There was a garden and the gardener was looking, guarding for people not to come eat and finish his [crops]. He saw three people: one was an Imam, one was a police man, and the other was a teacher. He asked them, “What are you doing here?” They said, “We are eating.” He said, “You cannot do this.” But he was afraid to face them all. So he said, “Look you are a teacher, how can you do this?” He told two other people, “We must catch him, tie him and hand him over to the government. This cannot be like this. You are honest people so you must help me.” So they caught him and tied him. Then he said to the police man, “What! You must be honest. You must guard this. You are a thief coming to steal from this garden.” So he told the other people to help him catch him and tie him. They tied him and put him aside also. When there was only the Imam left they said, “Are you not ashamed! You are an Imam and you are doing this.” And he caught him and put him aside. This is when people are one by one, they cannot defend themselves. But if they are helping each other, they will be strong so nobody can do anything for them.
This is [the case] now, especially in countries outside of the Muslim countries. Each [group of] people that have a mosque think that it is only for them. No children can come there, no other Muslim can come there, nobody. “Only quickly pray and go out. Don’t make anything here.” Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla
says, ‘ ’, ‘Wa man ‘azlamu mimman mana’a masājida Allāhi an yudhkara fīhā Smuhu wa sa’a fī kharābihā, ‘And who are more unjust than those who prevent the name of Allah from being mentioned in His mosques and strive toward their destruction.’ (Qur’ān 02:114). Who is more oppressive than those who prevent people from making Dhikr in mosques and from mentioning His ﷻ name, and only going to destroy it. Of course, when [they are] not making Dhikr and not making good things in the mosques, in the end nobody will go there. And it will be as we see these thousands of churches in England, nobody is going there, it was broken and destroyed.
This is what, SubhanaLlah, happens if Allah ﷻ leaves such people there. Especially these committees, they have, “Senile”, old people who forget. The committee has stubborn old people who don’t leave [allow] people to do anything in their mosque, because this mosque is not for Allah ﷻ, but for them. Then, the boys will go to Wahhabi mosques, and after [going to] the Wahhabi mosques, they will go [turn] to drugs and every bad thing, and they [the committee] are happy, saying: “We keep our mosque in our hand [under control]” Stubborn people’s hand! They don’t have any wisdom, they don’t have any mind. This happens everywhere. We hear many people say, “When I was a boy I went to a mosque, and they shouted at me and kicked me out. And after that I never went back to a mosque.” He was old, maybe 50 years old or more. And there are more examples as such.
What we must first do is kick these people out from the mosques, and not give them any authority or any right to say, “You come, pray and go.” When they don’t have any experience to make people happy with Islam – even Muslims are not happy after that – they run away from mosques and from Islam also. We are living in a time which the Prophet salla Llahu aa’layhi wa sallam said about: They give responsibility to people who don’t know how to use it. For this, they are not listening, no Qur’an, no Hadith, nothing; only what they know. And most of them are coming from a place, where they accept [anything] they hear or think as Shari’ah, as the order of Allah ﷻ and as the order of the Prophet salla Llahu aa’layhi wa sallam.
People in this time are helping each other in bad things, and giving examples saying, “You must enjoy your life.” You can enjoy it with Halal/permissible, no need for Haram/forbidden. Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla made both the Halal and the Haram. You can enjoy yourself with Halal. If you enjoy [yourself] with Haram, you will be unhappy and it is of no benefit for you. For you to do everything Halal, it is Barakah and happiness, and health and wealth also; because it is Halal. One Halal pound, with His ﷻ Barakah, its Barakah is better than a million from not Halal. People are forgetting this. The shaytan is cheating them and they’re running after Haram.
For this, we must be careful. As we said, it is not only here. Before, it was only here, but now in Muslim countries it has become worse than here also. We must be careful. Don’t run after Haram. These people are sometimes mixing up; they are saying for the Haram Halal, and for the Halal Haram. Because they have customs; they don’t know. And they think that their customs are Shari’ah; No. Many things you think are Haram, but they are Halal. And many things you think are Halal, but they are Haram. So you must be careful to not make it difficult for yourselves without meaning to. And you must fear Allah ﷻ because who makes this, Allah ﷻ curses him also – who makes the Haram Halal and the Halal Haram. Because the Shari’ah is what Allah ﷻ orders. But unfortunately, as I said, many people are coming from their countries with the thought that something is Haram while it is Halal. May Allah ﷻ give these people Hidayah/guidance.
Especially here, it is the most difficult. We have been to many countries. In this country, Wahhabi people or Salafi people are not much. But when they go out of their country and come to Europe or America, most of them become Wahhabi. Because shaytan is more strong here. And after this, they make the Halal Haram and the Haram Halal. And day after day, they destroy Islam and destroy Muslims. May Allah ﷻ keep us safe.
We must, as we said, help each other. Who wants to say Naseeha/Advice, to say a good thing, to make Mawlid – we must encourage them. Because the mosque is not only for praying, it is for Naseeha/Advice and for Sohbah. In the time of the Prophet salla Llahu aa’layhi wa sallam, everything was done in the mosques. Prophet salla Llahu aa’layhi wa sallam was accepting delegates coming from Arabs, party by party; he ﷺ was speaking and negotiating with them. And after that also, for selling and buying – Everything was done in the mosque. The mosque is not to be empty all day and to be open only five times a day. It must be all the time, a place for Ibada/worship, for Mashwara/consultation and for advice – this is what the mosque must be for. May Allah ﷻ give our people good understanding.
For this, saying Sohbah, Wa’az/lessons for people is important. So who has such people must help them. If you help each other, Allah ﷻ helps you. If you didn’t help, Allah ﷻ will ask you: “Why did you prevent these people who are coming to gather for Allah ﷻ?” What will you say? O old stubborn man! May Allah ﷻ give Hidayah/guidance. May Allah ﷻ help Muslims insha’Allah.
The “Committee” first came [out] in the time of the French Revolution, and after that in the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia, the communist revolution. The “Committee” was coming from there. It is not a good thing. May Allah ﷻ forgive us insha’Allah.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
