Speak Good or Remain Silent
Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh, Auzu Billahi Minashaytanir Rajeem. Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem, Wassalatu Wassalamu ala Rasulina Muhammadin Sayyidul Awwalin wal Akhirin, Madad Ya Rasulallah, Madad Ya As’habi RasuLillah, Madad Ya Mashayikhina, Sheykh Abdullah Daghestani, Sheykh Nazim al-Haqqani. Dastur. Tariqatunas sohba, wal khayru fil jamiyya.
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ states:
“He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, must speak good or remain silent.” If you are to do good for people, do good to them. A Mu’min (believer) should either do good or stay silent, he should either speak goodness or be quite. If he’s not going to speak good, he should just be silent because goodness is recorded as rewards and good deeds, while the other is a loss and it’s going to be recorded in the page of sins if one doesn’t repent and ask for forgiveness.
People talk, and if one doesn’t talk they shame him by saying: “That person doesn’t talk.” They now tell us: “You can talk, it’s freedom, you can talk as much as you want.” Yet when you talk and you do not say something good, it becomes evil and you can’t take it back. Most people insist on it because of their ignorance and do not ask for forgiveness, they do not repent and it could be written as a sin. Our Holy Prophet ﷺ says that it takes eight hours for the sin to be written if one doesn’t ask for forgiveness and repent. Even if it is written after that, if a person still asks for forgiveness and repents he can be forgiven because the door of forgiveness is not shut.
Even though this is the case, people still insist on doing the things they do and keep saying the things they want to say because of their arrogance and pride. Arrogance is in everybody: the poor and the rich; however, our Holy Prophet ﷺ says that arrogance in a poor person is worse. So insisting on something wrong is arrogance, and if they keep insisting on that evil or bad word their sins increase if they do not repent and ask for forgiveness. May Allah ﷻ protect us from this, may we always be amongst those who accept the truth and those who do good. If there is no justice or something is not right, we shouldn’t be standing for it. When there’s no justice or when something isn’t right, people either do not say anything because of some interest or benefit, or when they do say something they say it badly.
May Allah ﷻ protect us from this and may He show us the truth as the truth. May we be with the truth and with what’s right just as our Holy Prophet ﷺ states and orders us to do.
Wa Minallah at-Tawfeeq. Al-Fatiha.
