‘Awliyā’s Way is to Teach Goodness

7 min read

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

We are thanking Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla that we meet again. All the time, we must thank Allāh ﷻ because He ﷻ gives us the opportunity to be with his good servants, with good people. In every minute of our lives, we must be thankful for Allāh ﷻ. Mawlānā Shaykh used to say, one breath while alive, saying “Lā ilāha illa Allāh,” being in a place of dhikr and ṣuḥbah; is better than a thousand years under earth. Many people wish - they are not happy with life. Some of these crazy people kill themselves or wish they would die. This is not good. Because everything for the mu’min is good; nothing is bad for the mu’min. When Allāh ﷻ gives you a ni’mah, you must be happy. And when you thank Allāh ﷻ for it, He ﷻ will reward you and be happy with you. If you have bala’ (affliction) or any difficulty and you say “AlhamduliLlah,” Allāh ﷻ will also reward you. Any difficulty or any bad thing happening in life doesn’t go without reward. For this, Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam was saying, the situation of the Mu’min is ‘ajīb, strange: he’s rewarded when both the good and bad befalls him. Nothing, not any one state passes without blessings from Allāh ﷻ. You must know this.

[Sound disturbance]. Mawlānā used to get very angry when somebody comes and goes here and there [moves during the ṣuḥbah], so no need to do so. It finishes the atmosphere (manifestation) of mercy. Don’t speak. What comes from the mercy of Allāh ﷻ to our gathering is enough. No need to make this. Our gathering is for the sake of Allāh ﷻ. If you understand or not understand, it’s okay. AlhamduliLlah, many people are understanding also, all over the world. AlhamduliLlah, they’re coming from everywhere. They are happy, in shā’a Llāh. Our gathering is very important because we are continuing the way of Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, ṣaḥābah, Awliyā’u Llāh and Ahlu l-Bayt. All of our way is the same way. AlhamduliLlah many of you are coming from a very long distance: China, India, Turkmenistan. They’re coming from everywhere for the sake of Allāh ﷻ, Allāh ﷻ will reward them.

A great example of this is Sayyidinā Abdul Qādir Al-Gaylāni, ‘a’ala Llāhu darajātuhu dāima (may Allāh ﷻ always elevate his ranks). He is the Bāz, Hadri Bāz. He is the greatest Awliyā’u Llāh, who said “My foot is on the neck of every Wali.” Maybe people will think,

“How could he say this! How can his foot be on the neck of our mashāyikh!” The mashāyikh have no problem. If they are not happy with this, they are not mashāyikh. For this, many people sometimes don’t understand the wisdom of what Awliyā’u Llāh say. You should say, “Yes. He is a great Awliyā’u Llāh. We don’t object to that.”

Sayyidinā Abdul Qādir Al-Gaylāni was born in Gilan, north of present-day Iran. Allāh ﷻ gave him love for Awliyā’u Llāh and learning. His father had passed away; he was yatīm (paternal orphan). He only had his mother and brother. He told his mother, “I want to go and be with Awliyā’u Llāh, to learn from them, to be closer to Allāh ﷻ.” His mother was worried a bit, saying, “How will you go..” and so. But he insisted. She said, “Okay. Your father inherited 80 gold coins. I will give you 40 and your brother 40.” She put them in his jacket and sowed it to not be stolen or fall down. He went in a caravan to Baghdad. Baghdad at that time was a city of knowledge that had many Awliyā’u Llāh. So on the road, there were thieves. They were sixty or sixty-six thieves. They attacked the caravan and stole everything from the people. One thief came to him and just asked him, “What do you have?” He said, “I have gold inside my jacket.” The thief looked at him: he looks like a small boy who’s not rich. So he thought he was joking. He left him but the other thieves also came to him. They asked him the same question. And the same happened. So they told their chief, the master of thieves, “This boy said so. He might be joking with us!” He said, “Open his pocket.” They opened it and found 40 golden coins in his pocket. They asked, “Why did you tell us! You could’ve kept them with you.” He said, “I promised my mother to say the truth. If anything happened, I shall say the truth and nothing but the truth without hiding anything.” When they heard this, the chief of thieves said, “Oh, what is this! This boy is afraid from Allāh ﷻ and from his mother. He’s not lying. I repent and ask forgiveness from Allāh ﷻ. I will give back what I stole from these people.” And the other thieves also said, “Our chief repented. He was our master in stealing people. Now he is our master towards Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla.” All the sixty, by the barakah of Sayyidinā Abdul Qādir Al-Gaylāni became good people, and Allāh ﷻ accepted them.

This is the way of Awliyā’: to teach people goodness; not to steal from people, or cheat people, or harm people. AlhamduliLlah he is the biggest Awliyā’u Llāh and at the same time he was learning under Sayyidinā Yūsuf Al-Hamadānī. Hamadan is near Gilan also. But now it’s of course a little bit far. It’s a different city. Yūsuf al-Hamadānī was the Shaykh of Ahmad Yasawī. Maybe you haven’t heard much about Sayyidinā Ahmad Yasawī here; but he is a great man. He has a hundred thousand murīds. And he lived for 126 years. After 63 years, he dug under his house and stayed down under earth. He said, “Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam wasn’t upon earth (living) after 63 years. So, I cannot walk on earth.” For 63 years, he was living under earth, making a zāwiyah there, not going up at all.

He has, as we said, a hundred thousand murīds. They were going east and west. Most of them were going west. Of course, I think they must’ve reached this area also. Because everywhere they were going, with the barakah of these mashāyikh, they were spreading Islām. He and Sayyidinā Abdul Qādir Al-Gaylāni’s murīds were opening the hearts of people. When the Islamic army came, everybody was waiting for them to finish the oppression they had upon them. And people were happy, not running away from the country. Muslims weren’t throwing them out of the country. Islām is mercy. And ṭarīqah, especially, is teaching people the most to be merciful towards people. Mercy for people is by giving them a good example and making them be in Jannah. This is the biggest mercy they’re giving to people.

Many people came to hidāyah through them. The army of those not in ṭarīqah or don’t respect our Prophet ﷺ, don’t respect Awliyā’u Llāh, ṣaḥābah and Ahlu l-Bayt are not making any good for Islām. They are, every time, making trouble for Islām and making people run away from Islām. For this, ṭarīqah is very important. And you see how the great Awliyā’u Llāh, the great people serve Islām, serve from east to west, make millions and billions of people come to paradise, not run away from Islām. They bring people to Islām. Those against ṭarīqah and against sharī’ah cannot benefit at all. Many people are cheated by them. Why? Because they are cheaters and liars. In our way - there cannot be liars in Islām. Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, a Muslim can steal, can do this or that but cannot be a liar. This is a very bad thing. The worst thing for any human being is to be a liar; and especially for a Muslim; he cannot be. These people are a hundred percent liars; those against ṭarīqah, against madhhab, against sharī’ah, against aqīdah. They cannot take people to the right way. They make them run away from the way, and go the opposite way. Not go to Jannah but to Jahannam. This is their way, way of shayṭān. In Qur’ān also, it is mentioned many times that shayṭān takes people who follow him straight to Jahannam.

May Allāh ﷻ keep the us and the ummah safe from these people. May Allāh ﷻ make people not be cheated by these people who are really terrible ones. May Allāh ﷻ help us, in shā’a Llāh. May Allāh ﷻ send the one, whom Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam promised about, Sayyidinā Al-Mahdī ‘alayhi s-salām, to clean the world. Now the world is dirty spirituality and - everything is dirty. Nothing you find is good. Everything is making people feel bad. Because this dirtiness can be cleansed only with Sayyidinā Al-Mahdī. How will it be clean? Allāh ﷻ promised Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam that the whole world will become Muslim. And Muslims are clean. It will all be clean. And in shā’a Llāh, we are not far from this time. Because everything is reaching its end. May Allāh ﷻ help us. In shā’a Llāh we reach this time; all of us, in shā’a Llāh.

Wa min Allāhi t-Tawfīq. Al-Fātiḥa.
