Importance of Choosing a Good Friend

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

It is said, “As-sadīq qabla t-tarīq,” meaning “The friend is more important than [before] the path.” You must choose your friends very carefully. A friend who is on the right way is a great blessing. Otherwise, it’s a great affliction, a calamity. Now, what causes most people to fall into bad ways is a bad friend. The shayṭān loves a bad friend, the ego loves a bad friend. That’s why people are drawn to that, wanting to follow them. Therefore, you should be careful. From a young age, always encourage children to find good friends, and help them find them. Because this choice can lead to good or bad things throughout their lives. It can even lead to a bad end for a person after this life.

Therefore, the most important thing in life is friends. Because children, not sometimes but often, value their friends more than their mother, father and family. They accept all the nonsense they hear from them but don’t seek good advice from their elders. Therefore, if they have a good friend, they will accept the advice and everything will be much better. Otherwise, may Allāh ﷻ protect us, this time is even worse. The environment is conducive to committing all kinds of evil; it’s very easy to fall into all kinds of sins now. It wasn’t like this before; committing sins wasn’t so easy. There was shame, there was a sense of embarrassment; people restrained themselves from evil because of this. But now, may Allāh ﷻ help us all, and our children. Especially if they have a bad friend, it will ruin them. It will leave them with neither family nor anything else. It will make parents regret having such a child. May Allāh ﷻ protect us. Therefore, even if we are very busy, we must be careful and check who our children are associating with. May Allāh ﷻ protect us all, in shā’a Llāh. May the children of Muslims always be with their families, in shā’a Llāh. They are very precious. What’s most precious for us in life are our children. Because it is they whose prayers will reach you after your death; the greatest gift will come from them, with the permission of Allāh ﷻ. May Allāh ﷻ always make them a means of good, in shā’a Llāh.
