Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm,

‘Inna ‘Iddata Ash-Shuhūri ‘Inda Allāhi Athnā ‘Ashara Shahrāan Fī Kitābi Allāhi Yawma Khalaqa s-Samāwāti Wa l-Arda’, ‘Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth.’ (Qur’ān 09:36).

In the sight of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, the year consists of twelve months. Everything that Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla creates comes into being through the command, “Kun fa-yakūn”, “Be, and it is.” When He ﷻ says “Be,” it is; when He ﷻ says “Do not be,” it ceases; as it is said in the [Turkish] Mawlid, “Everything ends.” As Allāh ‘Azza waJalla has decreed, the secrets of the entire universe are in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n; everything is contained there, in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has determined the year as twelve months and created everything based on calculation. Nothing happens according to its own will. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has made it accordingly. Each of these months has different manifestations.

Shukr to Allāh ﷻ, we have entered the month of Safar. They say the month of Safar is “a heavy month,” so they refer to it as “Safar ul-Khayr” for it to be of goodness. May it bring goodness, and may evil stay away from us, in shā’a Llāh. Of course, nowadays people are unaware of anything in this world. They don’t know what is and what’s not; they only claim to have an understanding of education. In the past, children were only educated for a few years, that was all. Now, they say, “They will go to university, they will study this, they will study that,” but they don’t benefit from anything they study. They only know what is shown to them; they either don’t accept or don’t know anything beyond that. Yet these months are very important; people must know this. They must know how Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla created man, and how man should be. They need to know which months are blessed and which are a little more difficult.

Because everything has a wisdom, and every month has a duty. This month is a bit heavier, so there are different duties that need to be fulfilled. These must be done, and Allāh ﷻ will protect us, turning them into good; with Allāh’s ﷻ permission, evil will be transformed into good. This month’s duty is written down; what we say is written and shared everywhere. Certainly, the most important is sadaqah. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam placed great importance on sadaqah. He ﷺ even said, “Give sadaqah, even if it is half a date, and protect yourselves from the Fire.” In that time, people, even our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, could survive for two days without eating anything, surviving on just one date. Now, half a date is not enough for anyone; even half a kilo wouldn’t be enough for people today. Therefore, no matter how small the amount, be sure to give sadaqah. Don’t consider what you give to be little. Whatever you have, whether it’s money or something else, be sure to give sadaqah. Because sadaqah prevents accidents and calamities, and prolongs life. Especially since this month we are in is a heavy one, do not neglect giving sadaqah. Repentance and seeking forgiveness are necessary; this also keeps calamities away from us. Repentance and seeking forgiveness are beneficial in all things. Turning to Allāh ﷻ and asking for help from Allāh ﷻ is very important. Do not say, “We have committed many sins, Allāh ﷻ will not forgive us anymore.” Allāh ﷻ forgives; Allāh ﷻ is the All-Forgiver.

Increase your repentance and istighfār even more during this month. If others have rights upon you, you will be relieved of this heavy burden by returning those rights to their owners. The matter of rights is very difficult; the rights of Allāh ﷻ are easy, but the rights of servants are difficult. Allāh ﷻ forgives His ﷻ rights; However, unless the servant forgives, Allāh ﷻ will not forgive that wrong. A person must absolutely return the right to the wronged party. May Allāh ﷻ protect us from violating anyone’s rights.

This is also a beautiful month; everything is beautiful once a person is with Allāh ﷻ. As the blessed Yunus Emre said: “Everything that comes from You is beautiful.” Everything is inherently beautiful because it comes from Allāh ﷻ. This month is beautiful, other months are beautiful, and our upcoming months will also be beautiful, in shā’a Llāh. Indeed, after this month comes the month of Rabi’ ul-Awwal, the month of our Prophet ﷺ. May Allāh ﷻ make all our days beautiful, and may our lives be filled with īmān. After living with īmān, everything is beautiful, with the permission of Allāh ﷻ.

Wa min Allāhi t-Tawfīq. Al-Fātiḥa.

In honor of this blessed day, may Allāh ﷻ accept the Khatms of Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu shSha’n, including the surahs, verses, Yasin, Tabarakah; and all the Quran Khatms, takbirs, tahlils, salawats, and the recitations of Dalail Al-Khayrāt, as well as all the good deeds and charity entrusted to us by our brothers. We dedicate this to our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi

wa-sallam; with him ﷺ, everything will be accepted. For the souls of our Prophet ﷺ, of his Ahlu l-Bayt and ṣaḥābah. For the souls of all prophets, Awliyā’, asfiya, mashāyikh. For the souls of our ancestors. For the souls of believing men and women, Muslim men and women. For goodness to come and evil to be gone. For strong īmān.

Li-Llahi Ta’āla, Al-Fatiha.
