Don’t Follow the Herd

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm:

‘Wa in tuti’ ‘akthara man fī l-‘ardi yudillūka a’n sabīli Llāh’, ‘And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah.’(Qur’ān 06:116). Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Most people in the world are not on the right way. If you follow them, you will stray from the right way. People on the right way are few; people are chasing after their egos and desires. If you say, “Everyone is doing this, they’ve gone astray, I’ll do the same, it’s easier and more comfortable this way,” you will stray and perish.

Therefore, you must look at what is right. Are these people on the right way? Are their actions good? Will their actions go unpunished? Act accordingly; don’t trouble yourself, don’t destroy yourself. The person who is showing you the way doesn’t know the way himself, he’s lost his way; don’t follow him. Don’t say, “So many people are following him, so he must be on the right way.”

Look, the right way is clear. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said: “The ḥalāl is clear, the ḥarām is clear; and there are also things that are doubtful.” Don’t follow things that are doubtful. Follow the ḥalāl way, the way that avoids the ḥarām. Because in this time—although people were created this way before—following their egos is easier for people. It is more difficult for a human being to avoid the ḥarām.

Therefore, find the true way for yourself and do not deviate from it. They say, “All these people are going down this way, so it must be the right one.” Because the herd is going, everyone follows. One person jumps off a cliff, and those behind him continuously throw themselves off. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has given you mind, He ﷻ has warned you; do not follow them. Do not say, “They have drawn such a way, so let us also follow this way.” Your good way is clear; stay away from the bad way. Even if the whole world goes

down that way, it will not benefit you; it will only bring you harm. May Allāh ﷻ protect us and not lead us astray from the right way. May we not be swayed by the dictates of our ego, in shā’a Llāh.
