Hadith Lesson: Perform Ruku’ and Sujud Properly

5 min read

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad.

1Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Perform the Ruku’ and Sujud of your prayer properly, for, by Him in Whose Hand my soul is, I see you from behind my back when you make Ruku’ and Sajdah. Hence, make your Ruku’ and Sajdah without any fault.” Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wasallam is telling the Sahabah to make their Ruku’ and Sajdah properly, because our Holy Prophet ﷺ swears that just like he ﷺ sees the front, he ﷺ sees the back, as a miracle. Therefore, our Holy Prophet ﷺ tells the Sahabah to be careful about it. Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is both showing and telling about his ﷺ miracle.

2Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When a servant makes Sajdah, seven parts make Sadjah together with him.” He ﷺ is counting the body parts (limbs); “First is the face. Second is the two palms. Third is the knees. Fifth is the two feet. That makes it seven parts.” So seven parts go into Sajdah, says our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.

3Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When a servant makes Sajdah, seven parts which remain beneath with his Sajdah are cleaned up until seven layers.” It is showing mankind on earth how important praying is. When people make Sajdah, not only themselves, but also their seven parts are cleaned up to seven layers of earth. The Light of Allah ﷻ descends upon there.

4Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When someone among you makes Sajdah, he should not go down like a camel does. You should put your hands on the ground before your knees.” When you make Sajdah, you should make it properly with Khushu without any noise.

5Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When someone among you makes Sajdah, he should touch the ground with his palms. Hopefully, Allah ﷻ will loosen the chain put on his neck on Judgment day.” There is wisdom on putting the palms on the ground. Some people will go with a chain on their necks on Judgment day. With Barakah of Sajdah, they will be lifted from it, says our Holy Prophet ﷺ.

6Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When someone among you makes Sajdah, he should make it nicely and in proper place. He should not spread his arms like a dog.” All of us know how to make Sajdah. That is the right way, not otherwise by putting the arms on the ground. Everyone knows it. Our Holy Prophet ﷺ tells not to do like that. They should pay attention to this. Beginners don’t know it sometimes. But they learn it afterwards insha’Allah.

7Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When you make Sajdah, put your hands on the ground after you bend your knees. And raise your elbows from the ground.” You must put your hands on the ground without touching it with your elbows. This is for men. And it is different for women.

8Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “The worst of people in terms of stealing,” stealing is bad, but the worst is “the one who steals from praying. Because this person does not make Ruku and Sajdah properly with Khushu while praying.” A person who prays incompletely steals from praying.

9Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Adopt a moderate position when prostrating yourselves, and see that none of you stretches out his forearms [on the ground] like a dog.” Dogs spread their elbows leaning them on their bellies and lie like that. Our Holy Prophet ﷺ says Sajdah should not be like that. Sajdah must be the way it is shown insha’Allah.

Sadaqa RasuluLlah fi ma qal, aw kama qal. The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ says the truth in what he ﷺ said or as he ﷺ said.
