Hadith Lesson: Virtues of Praying in the Mosque

7 min read

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad.

1Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Sitting in the Masjid after a prayer waiting for another prayer is worship.” Even if you don’t do anything and just sit, it is written as worship for you. “Looking at the face of a scholar is also worship.” Looking at the scholar is worship. “And his breath is Tasbih.”

2Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “A Muslim does not regularly attend the mosques to perform prayer and remember Allah, but Allah feels happy with him just as the family of one who is abroad feels happy when he comes back to them for they have waited for him and greet him happily.” Allah ‘Azza waJalla gets happy when His ﷻ Mu’min servant goes to the Masjid. He ﷻ meets him with joy. Just like someone returns from another land, and his people rejoice, Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla rejoices in the same way. That is five times every day. Nothing is limited for Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. When Allah ﷻ is happy, it brings great goodness to us. The joy of Allah ﷻ and pleasure of Allah ﷻ with us is what we want.

3Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whoever waits for the time of another prayer in the Masjid is as if he is praying as long as his ablution is not broken.” It is counted as if he is praying if he has ablution. If he doesn’t have ablution, he has to renew it.

4Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “As long as a person waits for another prayer in Masjid, he is as if he is praying.” He earns Thawab of the prayer. Even if he comes early or a bit earlier than the prayer and stays afterwards, he earns Thawab of the prayer.

5Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Making ablution in times of difficulty,” when it’s cold or by bringing water where there is no water, “walking to the Masjid in order to pray, and after finishing the prayer waiting for the other prayer in the Masjid, washes away and cleans the sins completely.” No sins will remain with the permission of Allah ﷻ.

6Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Shall I tell you about something that erases mistakes and raises ranks thanks to Allah Almighty?” Our Holy Prophet ﷺ says these things lead to the forgiveness of sins and increasing of ranks. “First one is making ablution despite all kinds of difficulties.” Making ablution well in the cold or going after water when there is no water around. “Increasing the steps while walking to the Masjid.” The more steps you make, the better it is. You earn more Thawab then. “And waiting for the next prayer after performing a prayer. All of them are like keeping guard on the way of Allah ﷻ, like keeping guard, like keeping guard.” Ribat means keeping guard on the border of a Muslim country. It has the greatest Thawab. A person who does this attains that Thawab. It is like making Ribat (keeping guard).

7Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “When Allah ﷻ wants to give punishment to some nation, He ﷻ doesn’t punish them when He ﷻ sees the people of the Masjid.” Everyone has gone wild now. But Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla doesn’t punish people when He ﷻ looks at the people in the Masjid. May Allah ﷻ protect us. Some ignorant people say there is no need to build mosques, whereas mosques prevent you from suffering the punishment. Allah ﷻ made mosques and Jama’ah as mercy so that no punishment comes to others. They must thank people of mosques for that.

8Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “The Kaffarah (atonement) of sins is making ablution in best way despite the difficulty.” When you commit a sin,

there is Kaffarah for it. As we said, making ablution at night and day, in cold and hot is the first thing that makes Kaffarah for sins. “Going to the Masjid on foot.” At night or day or whenever it is, going to the Masjid on foot is the same. “And waiting for the time of the next prayer after a prayer.” It is to wait for the other prayer. All of them erase the sin and make Kaffarah for it.

9Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Whoever gets used to sitting in the Masjid for praying, making Itikaf, making Dhikr, learning or teaching knowledge, Allah ﷻ will watch over him and keep him under His ﷻ protection.” If people get used to Masjids, they get used to doing goodness, and

Allah ﷻ gets used to doing goodness to him. If they get used to it,

Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla will keep it in the same way.

10-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “The Masjid is a house of every believer.” Masjids and mosques are the homes of Allah ﷻ. And they are also homes to believers. Some people say, “How do you go to this Masjid? This Masjid belongs to this Jama’ah and that.” The Masjid is a Masjid. Wherever it is, whomever it is, people who go there go to the house of Allah ﷻ. It is their home as well. It is not permissible to look at this and that. Masjids should not be divided. It is a grant from Allah ﷻ to believers. People with weak Iman divide Masjids saying, “This is mine and that is not mine,” whereas all Masjids and mosques are Allah’s ﷻ. And they are the homes of believers. May Allah ﷻ be pleased with all of you. May Allah ﷻ make these Masjids everlasting. May He ﷻ increase them insha’Allah.

Sadaqa RasuluLlah fi ma qal, aw kama qal. The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ says the truth in what he ﷺ said or as he ﷺ said.
