Fasting in Shawwal
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.
Today is the 7th day of holy Shawwal, Shukr to Allah ﷻ. Normally, it is the last day of the fasting of Shawwal. Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said whoever fasts for six days after Ramadan, it is as if he fasts for a year. Certainly, it is Nafl fasting, not Fard. As it is not Fard, people can fast whenever they want. They can fast throughout Shawwal. They can fast for a day or five days; there is no obligation of six days. It is voluntary.
Voluntary things are not without value. They have great value. As ten Thawab are given for every day, thirty days become 300 days. And six days are like sixty days, so it makes 360 days. It is as if you have fasted for a whole year, says our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. This is a great blessing, a great benefit for us.
And the most accepted as Sunnah of our Holy Prophet ﷺ is to fast on the second day of Eid. They say you cannot fast on Eid. That is correct. The actual Eid is the first day. And you cannot fast on four days of Eid ul-Adha. It is Haram to fast on these five days of the year. Apart from this, you can fast. Therefore, when you start fasting on the second day, today becomes the last day. It is a holiday too. They call it Eid ul-Abrar. It is counted as the second Eid.
Some things are written. What conforms with Shari’ah is acceptable. Otherwise, it is not. Sometimes people fall in states that they start writing. But what they write has no importance. They don’t oblige us. What obliges us is whatever Shari’ah says, Tariqah says the same. Nothing is outside Shari’ah in Tariqah. This Tairqah or that Tariqah… If Tariqah is outside Shari’ah, it means those who came later have taken it out of the way. All Tariqahs are together with Shari’ah. There is no dispute at all, Tariqah and Shari’ah are one. They are just like molten brass; no difference between them at all. People who say there is difference commit a sin then. May Allah ﷻ protect us.
May today be blessed and good. Shukr to Allah ﷻ and welcome! People have come from Umrah as well. May Allah ﷻ accept it for them. And may those who haven’t been to Hajj go to Hajj insha’Allah.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
