Hadith Lesson: On Prayer
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī. Madad.
1Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Three things should not be delayed.” – We must pay attention to them. It is not up to our pleasure. Which are:
-
“Prayer when its time comes.” You shouldn’t delay it. These are important things.
-
“The second is the funeral when it is presented.” When Janaza is present, you must pray immediately and bury him. That is more acceptable and better. Some people prolong it and make it late, or wait for someone to come. That is wrong. When a Janaza is ready, honor the dead by burying him quickly.
-
“And for women to get married when they find someone suitable.” When there is a proposal and a woman is in the age for marriage, if a good man proposes to her, marry her off, do not delay it, says our Holy Prophet ﷺ.
2Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Do not fall behind in remembering your Creator.” Always remember and make Dhikr of Allah ﷻ. “And perform your prayer on time.” When Adhan is called, women at home should pray at home. People outside should pray in a mosque with Jama’ah if there is any. If there is not, they should still pray in its earliest time. “Undoubtedly, Allah ﷻ gives double the reward then.” A prayer performed in its earliest time is rewarded double of that performed in its latest time.
3Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “The superiority of a prayer performed in its earliest time over the prayer performed in its latest time is as the superiority of Akhirah over Dunya.” Dunya is nothing next to Akhirah. The virtue of a prayer performed without delaying, right after Adhan, compared to the prayer performed later is like [the analogy of] Dunya and Akhirah.
4Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “A prayer performed early on time leads to the pleasure of Allah ﷻ. A prayer performed later in time is the means of the forgiveness of Allah ﷻ.” The pleasure of Allah ﷻ is very important. The prayer in the end of time becomes the means of His ﷻ forgiveness. As long as you don’t miss the time completely leaving it for Qada’ (make up), that [mentioned above] is its virtue. If you neglect the prayer leaving it for Qada’, “I will pray later, I am on the way now, etc..”, it is a great loss for Muslims. You cannot get its Thawab back. Therefore, you must protect it as if you have found gold and jewelry.
5Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Do not delay praying because of eating or other things.” Pray, and then do the rest of work. You can do it 5-10 minutes. And then you may sit at the table to eat or you may be busy with something; you will either manage to pray at its latest time or miss it.
6Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “My Ummah will continue to adhere to the Fitrah so long as they do not delay the Maghrib until the stars have come out.” Fitrah means the Sunnah of our Holy Prophet ﷺ. Allah ﷻ created all people upon Fitrah. He ﷻ created them upon Islam. That is the same.
7Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Before dawn, only two Raka’at of Fajr Sunnah is performed.” There is only two Raka’at Sunnah before Fajr prayer. There is nothing between them.
8Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Do you want me to inform you about prayer of the hypocrite? They perform ‘Asr prayer late when the sun is [as yellow as] the tripe of a cow.” The tripe of a cow is yellow. Hypocrites pray
when the sun becomes like that, says our Holy Prophet ﷺ. Therefore, we must perform ‘Asr prayer without delaying it.
9Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “It is Haram to pray in midday apart from Friday.” You cannot pray 5-10 minutes before Dhuhr prayer and until [Dhuhr] Adhan is called. Also before sunrise, midday and at sunset. These are the times when you cannot pray.
10-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “There are two prayers after which you cannot perform Nafl prayer. One is after Fajr prayer until the sunrise, and another one is after ‘Asr prayer until the sunset.” You cannot perform Sunnah prayers in these times, especially at sunset.
11-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “It is Makruh (disliked) to pray in midday apart from Friday, because hell is inflamed everyday in midday apart from Friday.” Its fire boils at that time, but on Fridays it doesn’t. Fridays are free; Nafl prayers or any other prayer can be performed until Jum’ah prayer.
12-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “Those present here should inform those not present” - The Sahabah there should inform those who are not there or those who will come later on - “to not pray between the break of dawn and Fajr prayer except two Raka’at Sunnah of Fajr.” You cannot pray in between Sunnah and Fard prayers. It is permitted only before or after the sunrise.
13-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “It is forbidden to perform Nafl prayers after the Fajr until the sun has risen and after the ‘Asr until the sun has set.” Our Holy Prophet ﷺ says it is forbidden.
14-Qala RasuluLlah salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ (peace be upon him ﷺ) says:
Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is saying, “It is forbidden to pray at the middle of the day until the Zawal time (sun declined from the meridian), with the exception of Friday.” Zawal means declination of the sun. You cannot see it much here. In Makkah Mukarramah and Madinah Munawwara, if there is a street light, the sun shines so much that there is no shade at all. It falls directly. It is Makruh (disliked) to pray until the shade barrier appears, but this excludes Friday.
Sadaqa RasuluLlah fi ma qal, aw kama qal. The Messenger of Allāh ﷻ says the truth in what he ﷺ said or as he ﷺ said.
