What to Teach Your Children First

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum wa RaḥmatuLlāhi wa Barakātuh. A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Wa ṣ-Salātu wa s-Salāmu ‘alá Rasūlinā Muḥammadin Sayyidi l-Awwalīna wa l-Akhirīn. Madad yā RasūlAllāh, Madad yā Sādāti Aṣḥābi RasūliLlāh, Madad yā Mashāyikhinā, Dastūr Mawlana Sheikh Abdullāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghistāni, Sheikh Muḥammad Nāẓim al- Ḥaqqānī. Madad. Ṭarīqatunā aṣ-Suḥbah wa l-Khayru fi l-Jam‘iyyah.

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm:

(Qur’ān 13:28). “A-lā bi-dhikri llāhi taṭmainnu l-qulūb”, “Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”

Hearts find satisfaction with the Dhikr of Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. People find peace by always remembering Allah ﷻ. That is why our Holy Prophet salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says that the first thing you should teach your children when they start to speak is to say “Allah”. Their tongues should get used to it. Their tongues should develop with the name of Allah ﷻ so that their lives are good and Allah ﷻ protects them. Our Holy Prophet salla Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says that even a baby attains great goodness with mentioning the name of Allah ﷻ. Among the things you teach them, you should teach about Allah ﷻ.

Everyone is worried about education now. What will the children do? Which school will they attend? Which college will they go to? Which university will they go to? The whole world is always busy with this. It is quite old. What we mean by old is that it slowly started 30-40 years ago. But now it has become intense. There is nothing else they think about. Whereas Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla says people should be busy with the Dhikr of Allah ﷻ. Who is busy with the Dhikr of Allah ﷻ attains peace.

Studying or putting through school are not important. Because what’s important is to know Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. If you want to put children through school, you must put them where they let them know and teach them about Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. It is beneficial to know this. And the rest - everyone studies something and lives his life. That is not the main goal. The goal is to know Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla and to attain His ﷻ pleasure.

As we said, a person who lives with the Dhikr of Allah ﷻ from infancy until the end of his life attains the pleasure of Allah ﷻ. He is a beloved servant of Allah ﷻ. Who is busy with other things and forgets Allah ﷻ has no value in the sight of Allah ﷻ no matter what. And in the sight of people also - people like him spend time with him, follow him and stay by his side for their personal interests. That is not for something else but just for personal interest. But whoever strives for the pleasure of Allah ﷻ, loves people with the love of Allah ﷻ and is together with them is with good people then. May the Dhikr of Allah ﷻ always remain in our hearts insha’Allah. And we make Dua that people always remember Allah ﷻ and make His ﷻ Dhikr insha’Allah.
