Order Yourself First
Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh, Auzu Billahi Minashaytanir Rajeem. Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem, Wassalatu Wassalamu ala Rasulina Muhammadin Sayyidul Awwalin wal Akhirin, Madad Ya Rasulallah, Madad Ya Sadat As’habi RasuLillah, Madad Ya Mashayikhina, Dastur Mawlana Sheikh Abdullah Faiz Daghestani, Sheikh Nazim al-Haqqani. Madad. Tariqatunas sohba, wal khayru fil jamiyya.
A’ūdhu bi-Llāhi mina sh-shayṭāni r-rajīm. Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm:
‘Atamurūna l-nāsa bil-birri watansawna anfusakum wa-antum tatlūna l-kitāb’, ‘Do you order righteousness of the people and forget yourselves while you recite the Book?’ (Qur’ān 02:44). Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla says that you order others to do goodness but you actually keep forgetting to do it yourself. You do everything but order others to do goodness. It is wrong. You must do whatever you order. If you don’t do so, it has no benefit and no power. Your deeds will be a burden on you. You know what to do but you order others to do goodness while doing evil yourself. Your punishment will be bigger. It will be double because something done knowingly is different from something done unknowingly.
People can make a mistake out of ignorance. They may not know what is good and what is bad. Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla gives orders to people according to their abilities. We should repent for mistakes made unknowingly and ask forgiveness every day. We ask that Allah ﷻ forgives us. But when you make a mistake knowingly, you deserve a bigger punishment then. Therefore, you should order yourself first and then others. They will do as much as they can. And if they don’t, it won’t be your responsibility. But when you don’t do something yourself and tell others to do it, you will make a double mistake and get double the punishment.
Allah ﷻ gave the ego to people. And it is difficult to control the ego. There are many people who don’t do [some things], but order others. Apart from ordinary people, some people who are ‘Ulama don’t order doing goodness but order the opposite. They lead people to make mistakes and show the wrong as right. There is even a bigger punishment for them. May Allah ﷻ protect us and may Allah ﷻ let us do goodness. May Allah ﷻ give this beauty to all of us insha’Allah.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
