Consult the One Who is Competent

Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh, Auzu Billahi Minashaytanir Rajeem. Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem, Wassalatu Wassalamu ala Rasulina Muhammadin Sayyidul Awwalin wal Akhirin, Madad Ya Rasulallah, Madad Ya As’habi RasuLillah, Madad Ya Mashayikhina, Sheykh Abdullah Daghestani, Sheykh Nazim al-Haqqani. Dastur. Tariqatunas sohba, wal khayru fil jamiyya.

A’ūdhu bi-Llāhi mina sh-shayṭāni r-rajīm. Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm:

(Qur’ān 25:59). Allah ﷻ states in the Holy Quran: ‘So ask about Him one well informed.’ When you’re about to do something or attempt any work and you are to consult, consult the one who is competent and not anyone who doesn’t understand the work. Of course everybody can give an opinion, but those who are competent, educated, professional or have experience in that field should be the ones to be asked. If you ask everybody then you won’t know anything and in the end you’ll do whatever you know. When you do whatever you know or whatever you think is right, you either gain it or you don’t and then you might be sorry and you might regret it.

For most people when they are to do something, it has become almost a habit to ask everybody and then they do something wrong and they’re sorry for it. If you are to look for a cure and do according to this person and that person and whatever anybody says, then you’ll get worse and sicker. Also if you have something important that you are to do and you don’t ask the competent person in that field, in the end you’ll either be fined for it or you’ll be harmed and at loss.

Therefore, in these important works you can of course ask the Shaykh for permission but that’s not important, what’s important is what you’re going to do afterwards. For example, yesterday one of our brothers said that he gave a contract to build a building and the contractor put them in loss, he didn’t give them anything or any profit and he actually put them in more loss. So yes there are millions of people who do this work [these contractors], yet if you were to go to a competent person they will take care of your rights and do the right thing. But if you go to an incompetent person, what you have done is you have lost all your properties and monies. This will lead Allah ﷻ to question you, why did you waste your money or property like this? Moreover, you made this person take that money as Ḥarām (sinful) and you made him sin.

Now you’re thinking how am I going to save myself? If you had asked the competent person, they would’ve told you in the easiest way and you would’ve won, also the other person would not have committed that sin. So it’s not a one sided matter, it should be thought of from multiple points of view and angles.

Therefore, you need to ask competent people and you have to pay them money for it; nothing is for free. If you get something for free, it’s not going to be of any use. If you go to a doctor who’s not competent you’ll be at loss; and if you’re going to him just because he’s cheap, you’re going to lose your life in the end. In this matter, Allah ﷻ points and orders to consult competent people. If it’s something you know or Allah ﷻ has given you a specialty or a quality, then you might be competent in that field and it could be of use to yourself and to others. May Allah ﷻ make us meet competent people and what’s more important is for us to meet competent people in the matters of the hereafter insha’Allah.

Wa Minallah at-Tawfeeq. Al-Fatiha.
